Job Description

YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles is looking for a new Government Grant Writer for the Social Impact team! Job Description The Government Grants Writer will play a vital role in securing and managing public funding to support the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles's evidence-based programs and initiatives, with a particular focus on the Center for Community Well-Being (CCWB). This position will lead the full grant cycle for federal, state, and local government funding opportunities, including research, proposal development, submission, and reporting. The role requires exceptional writing skills, attention to detail, and the ability to translate complex programs and evidence-based outcomes into compelling narratives that align with government funding priorities. The Grants Writer will work closely with program staff and the evaluation team to effectively communicate program impact through data-driven results and evidence-based practices, ensuring strong alignment with government funding requirements for proven interventions and measurable outcomes. Qualifications Related Experience: Minimum of four (4+) years of experience in government grant writing with demonstrated success in securing federal, state, and/or local government funding. Experience with social services, youth development, or community health grants preferred. Immunizations & Physical: TB Test clearance. Specialized Skills: Exceptional writing and editing skills with attention to detail Strong knowledge of government funding processes and compliance requirements Experience with grants.gov and other government grant portals Proficiency in budget development and financial reporting Strong project management and organizational skills Ability to translate program outcomes into measurable deliverables Knowledge of HIPAA, data privacy, and research ethics requirements. Essential Functions GRANT DEVELOPMENT & MANAGEMENT Prospect Research: Monitor federal, state, and local funding opportunities Research and evaluate grant opportunities for alignment with YMCA programs Track grant deadlines and requirements Maintain database of government funding opportunities Proposal Development: Write compelling grant proposals that align with government requirements Coordinate with program staff to gather necessary information Develop program budgets in collaboration with Finance team Ensure compliance with all application requirements Manage proposal submission process and timeline Grant Management: Track active grants and reporting deadlines Coordinate with program staff to gather performance data Write and submit required progress reports Ensure compliance with grant requirements Maintain organized grant files and documentation Relationship Management: Serve as liaison with government funding agencies Coordinate with program staff on grant implementation Build relationships with government agency staff Participate in technical assistance sessions and bidders' conferences Quality Control: Develop and maintain grant writing standards and templates Ensure accuracy of all submitted materials Track success rates and maintain grant performance metrics Document best practices and lessons learned
