Duties
Duties include but are not limited to the following:
- Serve as subject matter expert in the field of credentials and clinical privileging (C&P).
- Ensure accurate provider data is entered into and maintained in the VetPro computer program.
- Demonstrate knowledge of medical specialties and core privileges by assuring complete documentation is available to support privileges granted to providers within their training and/or experience.
- Provide oversight to application process; analyze exceptions and deviations in expected application process; determine course of action and make recommendations.
- Provide guidance and instruction to hospital staff in completing the required documentation of establishing privileges for Licensed Independent Providers (LIPs).
- Collect data and make informed decisions to ensure qualified health care professionals are providing appropriate care in appropriate settings.
- Identify a problem, research reference materials, regulations, and standards to determine appropriate action necessary to correct the problem.
- Receive and review VetPro reports detecting problem areas requiring further investigation.
- Inform C&P Manager/Analyst of trends identified, audit results and identified problems that may affect a provider's privilege status.
- Develop short- and long-term goals necessary to accomplish the mission.
- Analyze and manage issues related to documents that do not meet expected requirements, regulations or guidelines e.g. malpractice claims, adverse actions against licensures and/or certifications, FSMB reports, and/or National NPDB CQ reports.
- Create automated system of program-specific data to track suspense on items e.g. project milestones, progress reports, and compliance strategies.
Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm

INDIVIDUAL OCCUPATIONAL REQUIREMENT (IOR): An IOR is a basic requirement that must be met in order to qualify for entry into this job series, and it is something that can't be waived. The education must be accredited by an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. To qualify for the GS 0671 occupational series, applicants MUST possess one of the following:
- UNDERGRADUATE AND GRADUATE EDUCATION: undergraduate or graduate education in a major field of study hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields, such as business or public administration, with course work in health care administration. (A transcript must be submitted with your application if you are basing your qualifications on education). OR,
- SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: specialized experience that is progressively responsible for analytical or administrative, or clinical management, or supervisory experience in the health care field performed in an operating health care facility or a higher organizational echelon with advisory or directional authority over such facilities with close working relationships with facility managers and analysis/coordination of administrative, clinical, or other service activities which provided knowledge in the following areas:
- 1) Missions, organizations, programs, and requirements of health care delivery systems;
- 2) Regulations and standards of various regulatory and credentialing groups; and
- 3) Government-wide, agency, and facility systems and requirements in various administrative areas such as budget, personnel, and procurement. OR,
- SPECIAL PROVISION FOR INSERVICE PLACEMENT: Completion of an agency-sponsored on-the-job training program, which included a formal individualized training plan. The training program should have been performed in an operating health care system and included:
- 1) Assignments providing a knowledge of basic health system administration philosophies, practices, and procedures, and basic government administrative policies and requirements;
- 2) Practical assignments providing an opportunity to apply health system administration skills and principles (as the individual progresses, work assignments must be characteristic of the grade level to which he or she is assigned); and
- 3) Oversight by an experienced health system administrator with periodic evaluation of the individual's progress and appropriate adjustment of the training program.
In addition to meeting the IOR, an applicant must also meet the Minimum Qualification below. GS-09 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-07 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes:
- Comprehensive knowledge of VetPro polices.
- Skill in applying analytical and evaluative methods and techniques to issues or studies.
- Ability to communicate orally and technical information to a diverse group of individuals with varying levels of understanding.
- Knowledge of the contacts required for verification of information in health care provider files.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, medical specialties and core privileges and procedures to assure competence/appropriateness of credentials and privileging requested.
- Ability to communicate in writing to prepare emails, letters, reports, and committee minutes.
- Skill in using software applications such as word processing and data bases and internet database applications for data entry, file maintenance and data retrieval and analysis.
- Attention to detail in required to analyze applications, documents, files and other material pertaining to the C&P programs.
OR Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D. if directly related to the work of the position.
OR Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at the GS-09 level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond 1 full year of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above to meet total experience requirements. The education portion must include graduate courses that demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do to the work of this position (i.e., hospital administration, public health administration, or related fields such as business or public administration with course work in health care administration). NOTE: Transcripts must be submitted with your application materials. Education cannot be credited without documentation. Experience must be clearly indicated in your resume.
