The American Heart Association’s Internship Program provides college students an opportunity for hands-on experience in various facets for individuals interested in gaining work experience with a non-profit, voluntary health organization.

This intern will be a part of the Quality Outcomes Research and Analytics (QORA) department. The American Heart Association is committed to providing acute hospitals consultative support for treating patients according to the most up to date scientific guidelines. When a hospital treats eligible patients according to these guidelines – patients have better outcomes and less recurring cardiovascular and/or stroke events. This internship will focus on the quality consultation processes that impact a participating hospital’s treatment compliance program retention and the position of the hospital for national recognition.

Internship Overview:

  • Time Commitment: 20-25 hours per week

  • Internship Duration: 5/19/25 – 8/22/25

  • Location: Remote position

  • Salary: $23 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Communicate and engage with a team of Quality Consultants to identify and share best practices for supporting hospitals participating in our Get With The Guidelines program.

  • Work with Quality Improvement leadership to develop and execute a C-suite dashboard and/or targeted customer communications.

  • Participate in a team that will create a framework for Get With The Guidelines customer programming for the next year.

  • Analyze data and draft scientific abstracts for submission to national conferences

  • Work with QORA cross-functional teams on projects impacting QORA goals and priorities.

Qualifications

  • Candidates who are seniors or graduate students pursuing a degree in public health, health science, health administration, or related area preferred.

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in Excel, including VLOOKUP and other methods of combining data sources.

  • Knowledge of health equity.

  • Prior experience or interest in clinical data.

  • Experience with medical terminology preferred.

  • Self-starter with good organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to deal professionally in a corporate or non-profit environment and assume responsibility for guiding projects and programs from inception through completion.

  • Effective oral, written, and presentation communication skills

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment managing multiple priorities involving multiple entities

  • Intermediate to excellent proficiency in MS Word, Outlook and PowerPoint

  • Required Equipment: Reliable Wi-Fi connection.

  • Minimum availability of 20 hrs/wk, M-F between the hours of 9am-5pm.

  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship, now or in the future. For any roles working remotely, the work must also be performed inside the United States, not in a foreign country.
