CityVet Uptown Charlotte is looking for Veterinary Assistants -- with a minimum of 1 year of experience -- to join our team! Although previous experience in a veterinary hospital is preferred, we do have entry-level positions available as well. We are willing to train the right candidate!

Responsibilities

The Veterinary Assistant (VA) is responsible for maintaining excellent patient care and operational productivity by helping the Veterinary Assistant manage their time and efforts to meet the needs of our clients and patients. The Veterinary Assistant works to relieve the Veterinary from technical work and administrative detail to achieve greater levels of efficiency in daily practice. Veterinary Assistants help facilitate and streamline the communication from the operating room to the front office staff and most importantly, the client.

Essential qualifications:

· High school diploma or GED

· At least 18 years of age at the time of hire

· At least 1 year of veterinary in office experience

· Ability to follow directions and plan of care established by Veterinarian, even if there are differing treatment options

· Displays critical thinking ability and active listening skills

· Self-driven, takes initiative, working with minimal supervision and direction

· Maturity, good judgement and professional demeanor

· Ability to work weekends and holidays

· Understanding and ability to properly, and safely, restrain animals

· Knowledgeable on veterinary medical terminology and medication

· Lift 50 lbs to waist height

· Frequent standing, bending, walking, lifting, carrying, and reaching

· Strong organizational skills

· Excellent communication & listening skills

· Self-motivated & team-oriented

· Ability to remain calm and empathetic in stressful/emergency situations

· Bilingual would be nice but not required

A day in the life:

· Assists the Veterinarian in preparing patients for medical, surgical, and dental surgeries by assisting in the administration of anesthesia and properly restraining the patients as needed for examination and treatment.

· Effectively partners with the Veterinarian and other Veterinary Assistant (VA) Teams to administer proper patient triage protocol based on the client and facilities' needs and capabilities in a fast-paced and effective manner.

· Aids Veterinarian and Veterinary Assistants (VA) with booked appointments, walk-ins, and work-ins, including recording observations/treatment plans in the patient file, and aid in the performance of medical treatments under doctor supervision.

· Assists the Client Service Specialist team when needed
